Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
God has given us clear instructions about reaching out to others. One instruction God gives his church is to “go,” that is, to go outside of our church doors and share his great love with the people around us. Another instruction he gives is to “welcome” – to invite in those who are strangers and show hospitality to them.
As a church, Faith Lutheran “goes” by taking God's love out into the local community. Yearly the church participates in the National Night Out. We support the Lutheran Mission Society and at the church, hold monthly clothes sorting sessions. Our Prayer Shawl Ministry knits and crochets items for charities, including Carroll Hospital Center, Dove House, VA Hospital, Pregnancy Center, Shepherd's Staff, and many other organizations.
Similarly, the people of Faith Lutheran “welcome” by offering free or low-cost events that are valuable to our community, such as musical events, movie nights, etc. Each summer we host approximately 100 children for a free week of Vacation Bible School. In December, Faith’s live Nativity play brings the community together on Faith’s grassy field for a fun outdoor Christmas experience including real animals, cookies, hot chocolate and, most importantly, the story of Jesus’ love. We also offer the free use of Faith’s field to local sports team, such as children’s soccer and lacrosse.
If you have a desire to join us in serving our community and sharing the good news of Jesus’ love, there are many opportunities available.
